So Brittany is basically the hardest person in the world to surprise. She
always is suspecting something and won’t stop asking questions cause till
she gets her answer. Besides that I can’t lie to her. Look at that face,
who could lie to that? The only problem is I wanted to surprise her.
Now she was suspecting this had to happen sometime. After all we had been
planning on getting married and had already been making preparations for
making that happen. I knew nothing would come as a complete surprise. So
what I did was tell her I was talking to my uncle Curtis who is a jeweler
and he was getting me a superb deal and that just takes time. Luckily her
friend Lisa just married my cousin Kenley and it seemed to take a couple of
months for Lisa’s ring to arrive when they were searching so she seemed to
buy it. Secretly however, getting the ring was coming along a lot faster
than I let her know.
On Saturday Aug 7th she had to work so I took her dad out to eat because
even though he already knew I was planning on asking her, I felt it was the
proper thing to ask for his blessing in the whole matter. Now the day
before that on Friday Curtis’s assistant had called me and told me she was
shipping the ring, so I started wondering if it would be there Saturday.
Well as I’m waiting to see if it would come that day
to text me. As lunchtime rolls around she is hinting that she wants me to
take her to lunch. I tell her that I can’t and really don’t give her a
super good reason. This makes her suspicious and think that I am being
really secretive, but what can I do? I definitely can’t let her know I’m
taking her dad out because she then she would think I was asking. I tell
you this girl has a way of finding out everything. Needless to say the ring
did not arrive that day and I made it past my secret lunch.
As Monday the 9th comes around I plan on the ring show
weekend I had spent my time convincing her it wasn’t going to be here till
September sometime. All the while thinking I was asking her on Monday. I
was so excited to ask and could tell that she was getting down that it would
be so long away.
Monday morning I call my mom and ask her to go look for a package at my
front door. So at noon she went over to my house and found the Fedex box
sitting there. When she called and told me she had it I was so excited and
then I started getting nervous. Now I had to ask and I didn’t know how to
do that. I wanted it to be something special but at the same time knew I
couldn’t do anything overly romantic because she would know what was up
right away.
While at work one of my buddies Brit mentioned how he had gone to this
cupcake place called Sprinkles over the weekend and how it was kind of fun.
So we kept talking and I thought that would be perfect. Just unusual and
fun enough to make it memorable but not so romantic that she would know
right away. I knew she would suspect something because she always does, and
I cancelled working out to go get cupcakes, so she knew something was up,
but as long as I kept her guessing that was the best I could hope for.
Right after work that day I rushed to my parents house and picked up the
ring. It was in a cute little box and the ring itself was perfect. This
was the first time I had seen it but my Uncle had taken the details I gave
him and matched them perfectly with what I had wanted. I couldn’t keep the
ring in the box because it was to big and made my pocket bulge, so I took it
out and just stuck the ring in my pocket.
She was babysitting her niece Shelbie when I called so I went over there and
waited for her sister to get home from the doctor. As soon as she did we
stopped by her mom’s house. When we got there her mom seemed real talkative
for some reason, and even though it was maybe two minutes it seemed like an
hour to me. I thought man this is never going to happen. Finally we were
on our way to cupcakes and my asking.
When we arrived at Sprinkles I parked far away because my plan was to ask
her when we got back into the car and I really didn’t want anyone else
around. We got our tasty treats and then sat down at a table outside. I
thought about asking her then but there were just to many people going by so
I waited. Eventually we got up and started heading back to my white Chevy
truck. My heart was beating pretty loud and I was starting to feel dizzy
and nervous. As we approach the truck I notice some idiot had parked right
by me and they were just sitting there. Two girls sitting in their yellow
truck ruining all my plans. I couldn’t believe it. I tried convincing
girls would leave, but that really didn’t work so we got in drove across the
street to
Upon pulling into the parking garage I immediately start heading to the most
secluded parking spot I can find. I even joke with her telling her we
should park on one of the upper levels and that I would make it worth her
while. She thought I was being dumb. She even would shift my truck back
into drive when I would try to back into a place. After several minutes of
playful arguing we park in a spot closer enough for her and far enough away
for me to feel comfortable. As I get out of my truck I kneel down and
before she is completely facing me I start asking, “Will you marry me?”
She gets this confused look on her face, which quickly starts to turn to a
smile, and I rocket back up to my feet before her lips can turn completely
to a smile. The butterflies zooming around my stomach are making everything
seem distant and dream like. I am finally able to pull myself together and
I ask her, “so what’s the answer?” Apparently she had already said yes but
I didn’t notice.
After that we spent the next hour or two walking through the mall trying to
wipe the smiles off of our faces but being very unsuccessful in our
attempts. It was seriously the best moment in my life up to this point!
